EAST CENTRAL— Melfort, Nipawin and Tisdale have begun discussions on the possibility of submitting a bid to host the 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games.

“The three communities are talking about putting together a bid, the potential and benefits— but we’ve got some work to do before we actually decide to move forward on that,” said Barry Elliott, Nipawin’s administrator.

The three communities will be meeting on Feb. 25 to discuss the options. The discussions were first announced during Nipawin council on Feb. 10.

Games the competition traditionally features include alpine skiing, badminton, biathlon, curling, bowling, cross country skiing, hockey, gymnastics, judo and more.

“I wouldn’t say anything has been confirmed just yet but we’re trying to get our ducks in a row to see if it’s workable,” Elliott said.

“It’s a great opportunity for some regional effort here. We don’t do that as often as we like to so we thought this would be a great opportunity.”
