Jessica Moskaluke has a new country recording on the shelves which is getting its share of attention.
"I'm super excited about the finished product! I wrote on each of the eight songs on the album, which is a first for me," she said, adding "it's a little nerve racking releasing something so personal and dear to me to the entire world, but I've been getting a really great response to start, so I hope it keeps up that way."
Moskaluke said getting the songs ready for the recording was something that took time to get to feel just right, but added that is to be expected.
"I think it will always be difficult to get the right songs together," she said. "This time in particular was my first CD of completely original material. So I have been writing for it for the last few years now."
The former GX94 Talent Search winner (2007) said in this case she was learning the craft of writing as she went along too.
"I just started writing about two-years ago, so now that I have developed my writing style and met several writers that I click with, the process for the next album should be quicker, I hope," she said.
Moskaluke, 22, explained parts of the EP were recorded in Nashville, and other parts were recorded in Vancouver, adding being in the studio came pretty naturally to her.
"By the time I recorded this project, I had been in the studio plenty of times," she said. "I really do love recording, as well as performing, but they are completely different from each other. Recording is a calm experience where I can really nail down the exact sound and emotion I want to put into a song, whereas performing is a huge adrenaline rush, and more of a thrill."
In terms of music Moskaluke had an early introduction to it.
"I got my start in music when I was about 14 or 15 by doing local talent competitions and radio competitions," she said. "I did a number of them without winning at the start, but the more I did them, the more I loved them, and it started to show, and eventually I started winning more and more. That's the only background I have in music. My family isn't very musical at all."
Moskaluke said when it comes to performing 'modern-country' it is simply a case of performing what she herself has always liked.
"My musical influences vary from Faith Hill to Shania Twain to Eric Church," she said. "They are among some of the artists I had grown up listening to, and have left the biggest impact on my current musical style.
"I'd describe my style as country rock. It's definitely got some crossover potential, as opposed to just straight up traditional country."
Catch Me If You Can is the current single off the recording, a song with a supporting video getting television play. Moskaluke said to expect a follow-up single release at Christmas.
