Two school programs in Yorkton have received funding donations through DuPont Pioneer’s Full Belly! Full Mind! Initiative which supports nutrition and breakfast programs across Canada.

Through the program $1,000 has been donated to Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS), and $1900 has been donated to Yorkdale Central School (YCS).

The grant to the YRHS will be specifically used to fund the nutrition program that is delivered through the Universal Teaching Program (UTP) classroom at the school. The nutrition program provides basic nutritious foods for up to 100 students from Grades 9 to 12 each year that face adversity or gaps in their healthy eating choices. Rob and Tracey Bletsky, Pioneer Hi-Bred sales representatives, endorsed the grant.

“Good nutrition helps students focus in school and encourages positive behaviour,” said Delaine Mandziak, DuPont Pioneer account manager in a release. “It is important to us that all students are given every opportunity to succeed. We are pleased to be a part of the work this school is doing to support all its students.”

“Many students that attend our school programs do not routinely eat a healthy breakfast. It is our goal to provide food that helps students fuel their body and mind to increase their academic productivity,” said Carma Lee Doupe, teacher, Yorkton Regional High School. “We thank DuPont Pioneer for their generosity.”

The YCS grant will be specifically used to fund a new breakfast program. The Yorkdale Breakfast Program will provide a nutritious breakfast at the beginning of every school day to 20 students requiring assistance. Rob and Tracey Bletsky, Pioneer Hi-Bred sales representatives, endorsed the grant.

“Hunger is a real issue for a number of students in the community, and is distracting at school and affects the students’ ability to learn,” said Mandziak. “The new breakfast program is a great initiative that will enable students to perform at their best in class.”

“This donation will make a big difference in the lives and well-being of the group of children needing extra support, and will ensure their nutritional needs are met,” says Shaune Beatty, principal, Yorkdale Central School. “We thank DuPont Pioneer for their generosity.”
