The Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) will present a celebration of two of the greatest orchestrators of all time this Saturday, April 14, 2018 – 8PM at the Conexus Arts Centre with Tchaikovsky & Mozart. Regina-born cellist, Blair Lofgren will be joining the RSO for a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations, Tchaikovsky’s tribute to Mozart.

Laying down the musical foundations that would shape the course of history, Mozart is considered ultimate Classical master. Saturday evening will celebrate Mozart’s instantly recognizable Symphony No. 40, and the works of Tchaikovsky and Ravel, two of the greatest composers inspired by him.

Described by Gramophone critic Ivan Moody as “a tremendous player”, cellist Blair Lofgren’s career is a marriage of extensive performing and dedication to his teaching.  Born in Regina, Mr. Lofgren began his studies at an early age, with Barbara Fitzpatrick and Cameron Lowe at the Regina Conservatory of Music. After receiving the President’s Gold Medal, Blair continued his studies at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto under Thomas Wiebe and John Kadz. He has also studied with such masters as Timothy Eddy, Laurence Lesser, Aldo Parisot, Philippe Muller, Jean Deplace, Roland Pidoux, Paul Watkins, Laurence Fenyves and Walter Joachim. His career has since seen him collaborate with such artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Joseph Kalichstein, Lynn Harrell, Marc-André Hamelin and Mark O’Connor.

Saturday evening will commence with a pre-concert chat with RSO interim concertmaster Christian Robinson and music director Gordon Gerrard at 7:05PM in the Conexus Arts Centre Theatre Lobby.  The Conservatory of Performing Arts Child Parent Strings program students will follow with a performance at 7:20PM led by RSO violinist, Karley Parovsky.
