Lampman's Hookenson wins a prestigious Student-Athlete of the Year Award

Minnesota State Mavericks senior defenceman Edwin Hookenson has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s (WCHA) Student-Athlete of the Year.

A 2019-20 alternate team captain, Hookenson, who hails from Lampman, is a three-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and a three-time WCHA All-Academic Team honoree. Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week following two games at the University of North Dakota on Oct. 18 and 19, 2019, Hookenson ranked second in the country in blocked shots last year with 97.

Named Minnesota State's Unsung Player of the Year in 2018-19, Hookenson finished his college career with eight goals and 23 assists for 31 points, along with a +45 rating, 127 shots on goal and 205 blocked shots in 124 games played.  He carries a 3.94 grade point average and will graduate with degrees in finance and accounting.

Minnesota State, which finished the season having captured its third-consecutive MacNaughton Cup as WCHA regular-season champions, finished 2019-20 with a 31-5-2 record.
