Two co-accused charged in connection to a major drug bust north of Biggar where an RCMP officer was shot have had more court appearances.

Mitch Hutchinson, 49, has had numerous bail hearings scheduled but he remains in custody. He has had six hearings scheduled so far in May and June. His latest show cause hearing was in Saskatoon Provincial Court June 19. All details at show cause hearings are banned from publication, which is common.

Hutchinson was arrested May 15 after the Saskatchewan RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit raided a rural home in the R.M. of Glenside 27 kilometres north of Biggar. When officers went to execute a search warrant at the residence just before midnight on the night of May 14, one of the officers was shot. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No officers fired back during the confrontation.

At the residence, police found spent anti-tank weapons, a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun, a revolver and body armour. They also found methamphetamine, fentanyl, GHB, Xanax pills, and LSD. During their search at the rural property, police also seized $16,080 in Canadian currency, money counters, packaging for drugs, eight cell phones, computers and tablets.

Hutchinson was arrested during the raid and charged with numerous drug and weapons-related offences.

Hutchinson’s co-accused, Kurt Miller, owns the rural home police raided. He was arrested May 14 by Regina Police during a traffic stop. Miller was charged with trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and breach of probation.

Hutchinson’s latest show cause hearing in Saskatoon Provincial Court via CCTV was on June 19. He has another one now scheduled for June 26.

Miller was released on bail June 2 and he had an appearance scheduled in Saskatoon Provincial Court June 18 to speak to his matters. At that appearance, a bench warrant to hold was issued for Miller. This means that if Miller doesn’t appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court for his next appearance the warrant will be issued. He is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court June 30.
