Couple accused of killing Kenneth Merasty appear in M.L. court

A man and woman charged with second-degree murder for the death of Kenneth Merasty had more court appearances in Meadow Lake Provincial Court April 6.

Lucy Annelle Whitecap, 31, is seeking bail and a show cause hearing is scheduled for April 26. Her co-accused, Joseph Jay Merasty is also scheduled to appear next on April 26 to speak to his matter.

The two were arrested after Meadow Lake RCMP were called to a home on Flying Dust First Nation at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2021, after reports of an alleged stabbing. Kenneth Merasty, 43, was found suffering from serious injuries and taken to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Whitecap is additionally charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breach of an undertaking.

The charges against Whitecap and Merasty haven’t been proven in court.
