The DRA (Dubuc Recreation Association) ladies catered to the Hedstrom Auction Sale on Sunday supplying the auction patrons with refreshments. The day was not very spring-like with an awfully cold wind blowing. The hot coffee definitely was our best seller on the menu. There was a great turnout, lots of visiting, some very good buys and our food booth cleared over $800 to help pay expenses for the upkeep of the Memorial Hall.

John and Gayla Hedstrom had some help from their family to dig away the snow and get everything set up. Joanne Wallace came from Barrhead, AB, Brent Hedstrom from Regina and Reid Hedstrom travelled all the way from Stockholm to give them a hand!

Stacey and Lana Clark and children, Braden, Austin and Larissa spent Sunday through Tuesday visiting with Mom/grandma, Sharon Clark. Stacey took his Dad, Mervin Clark of the Bangor Lodge, to Yorkton for a medical appointment while here.

The Monthly community birthday party was held on the fourth Wednesday of April as usual. Shuffleboard and cards were played until lunchtime. Ken Allan supplied the birthday cake which rounded out a lovely luncheon. Doug Morley supplied flowers from his flowerbed for the head table - lovely crocuses in all shades of yellow and purple. It's hard to believe that they were growing with a three foot snow bank only three feet away. Maybe Spring will really be here soon! Eighteen people enjoyed the afternoon with Earle Moller and Dennis Toth being the only birthday "babies" in attendance. Have a great year, guys!

Don't forget the flea market and garage sales happening in Dubuc on May 11. There are bound to be some treasures to be found.

Congrats to Alan and Betty Willway from Crooked Lake as they have a new grandson! Alan and Betty motored to Regina to attend the wedding of their granddaughter, Verenna Peterson, to Michael Sherar on April 13. Best Wishes, Verenna and Michael, from everyone in Dubuc/Cotham.

Twin sisters, Martha Simle and Marie Wilson, both residents of the Langenburg Care Home, celebrated their 91st birthdays on April 14. Melba McAlpine of Dubuc, Sharon Tabbernor from Spy Hill, Marion McAlpine from Esterhazy and their sister, Nina Hughes of Regina, motored to Langenburg a couple days later to share some cake and refreshments with the birthday girls. Best wishes from all your Dubuc friends, we hope you both have a happy, healthy year.

We have had a couple pretty quiet coffee rows lately and to top it all off, we have actually had to pay for our own coffee!! Thank goodness Earle Moller decided to have a birthday. Yup, it was a "pull up another table" morning on Saturday when thirty people turned out for "free" coffee and fresh baked scones and cheese. Earle had to pass an offering plate to help pay the bill. When that only yielded seven cents, he dug into his sock! What fun we had. Many happy returns, Earle, hope you have a great year. Out of town visitors were Darlene and Stuart Stevenson from Stockholm, Sharon Tabbernor of Spy Hill and Elaine and Ron Herperger from Atwater.

The annual Flea Market Fundraiser at the Hut will be held on Sat., May 11 starting at 9 a.m. Tables will be rented out. Coffee and sandwiches will be available. As well as the goods for sale at the Hut, there will also be some family garage sales around town that day. Any donations for the table with proceeds going to the Hut upkeep would be appreciated. Coffee Row will still take place that morning as usual. There are bound to be some treasures to be found.

Has anyone out there heard of Encaustic Art? All art work is done in bee's wax. This is an art that is approximately 4000 years old and was used to preserve art and documents. This art work is done with a low heat iron, pigmented colored wax and an imagination. Juanita Heembrock has taken up Encaustic Art and is willing to show others how it is done. Juanita is a very talented, artsy lady.

Where the heck is Spring? If anyone left their tax filing to the last minute this year, they might have to pay late fees. Just as the grass started to appear and the snow banks were shrinking, April 30 brought a dump of snow. The storm hit with a fury of snow and wind. Mother Nature had another dance with winter and we hope this will be the end of it until December.

The school kids had a snow day and so did many of their parents. Some of the grandparents also had a snow holiday and the really lucky ones got to spend it with their grandkids making memories. There was no news from Tuesday's coffee row because, believe it or not, even coffee row had to be cancelled! It's never cancelled all winter but now that spring is here what is the world coming to?

Get well wishes from all your Dubuc friends go out to Leonard Simle from Sumner Place in Esterhazy and Elaine Kovacs of Yorkton who have been under the weather of late.

Some ladies from Dubuc attended the FunRaisers Ladies Nite Out in Bangor last Friday. A delicious Chicken, Pasta and salad supper was served followed by a delicious Lemon Angel Food dessert.

Trevor Kerr was again the MC and provided much laughter with games and jokes throughout the evening. About 70 raffles prizes, a major door prize of a lovely garden water fountain and several give-aways were won by those in attendance. Some won as many as 4 prizes while others went away with nothing except the memories of a very enjoyable evening.

The whole event is organized and catered by the FunRaisers group of 5 ladies that raise money for the benefit of the Morris Lodge residents and the décor at the lodge to give it a homey atmosphere. It was noted that this was the 9th annual Ladies Nite Out and that in the previous 8 evenings, over $28,000 had been raised. Great work, ladies!

There was a great turnout at coffee row on Saturday morning, no birthdays but a lot of laughs and good visiting. Volunteers signed up to work in the canteen for the Hedstrom auction sale to be held on April 21. The Dubuc Recreation Association is serving lunch and refreshments. The proceeds will be going toward the Memorial Hall upkeep.
