The assault happened on Dec. 18, 2017, when a masked man forcibly entered a home and sexually assaulted a woman while armed with a firearm. Her child was home at the time of the assault.

The initial investigation into the assault resulted in the arrest of a different man, who was later cleared due to DNA evidence. Further investigation revealed that the man had no involvement in the assault.

Pasiechnik made his first appearance in Yorkton Provincial Court on Dec. 31. With the crown opposing his release, he had a bail hearing set for Jan. 3 in Canora.
