The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce will host an All Candidates’ Forum Wednesday October 28 for the Mayoralty and Council candidates in the upcoming municipal election.  The Forum will be held at the Gallagher Centre beginning at 7:30 PM.  The Chamber is pleased that the two candidates of Mayor and all 15 Council candidates will be in attendance.

With so many candidates, and with the restrictions created by the pandemic, the format for the Forum has had to be changed from previous Municipal Forums.  Juanita Polegi, Executive Director described the format of the Forum.  “The candidates have all received a list of potential questions and from these questions, each candidate, in addition to having some opening remarks, will be invited to answer 3 of the questions as selected by the Chamber,” she said.  “The candidates will be grouped for a total of 6 groupings, including that of the candidates for Mayor.  Each grouping will be asked 3 questions and then 3 different questions will be posted to the next group of candidates and so on”.

Unfortunately, due to the timelines, the public will not be able submit questions.  “We are disappointed that we can’t involve the public with this Forum,” said Marty Sveinbjornson, Chair of the Policy committee.  “We are confident, however, that with the diversity of questions, the public will be engaged as they watch or listen to the broadcast.”

Due to the restrictions placed on gatherings by the Sask Health Authority, the Forum will not be open to the public.  However, there are a number of ways the public can view or hear the Forum.  The event will be broadcast live by The Rock 98.5 FM and Access Now on channels 7 and 507; and livestreamed on Access Now at https://www.myaccess.ca/decision2020/

The Chamber thanks the public for their patience and understanding.  The Chamber encourages everyone to tune in to the Forum to learn more about the candidates and their respective views on the issues and opportunities facing the citizens of Yorkton.
