Charges have finally been laid in a four-year-old arson investigation.

In July 2010, a building at the corner of First Avenue and Smith Street that housed Heiser's Health and Fitness, The Pumphouse and Shear Bliss went up in flames.

Last week, RCMP arrested Chancey Heiser, former owner of the gym on one count of arson and one count of arson with intent to defraud.

"It was suspicious right from the get go," said current fire chief Trent Morrissey.

A source close to the business said everybody suspected Heiser at the time.

Although the now-32-year-old is charged with arson with intent to defraud, a spokesperson for the RCMP would not confirm he allegedly did it to collect insurance money.

The damage was so extensive, the building was eventually condemned and demolished. The lot is currently empty.

Heiser is scheduled to appear in Yorkton court December 15.
