Sex assault: Man pleads not guilty

A Yorkton man accused of sexual assault pleaded not guilty at Yorkton Provincial Court January 28. Joshua Sutherland elected to be tried by judge and jury at Court of Queen's bench saying, "It didn't happen, your honour," in front of Judge Ross Green on Monday. A preliminary trial has been set for April 10.

Cocaine dealing: Plea hearing set

A Yorkton man accused of cocaine trafficking will appear at Yorkton Provincial Court for a plea February 19. Sean McNeil was charged with dealing drugs November 23. Last week, Yorkton This Week reported that a judge ruled there was not enough evidence to sustain a trafficking charge for Brady Baumgartner who the Crown alleged had aided and abetted McNeil in the offence.

Assault: Trial set

A Yorkton man facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm will stand trial June 26. Ryan Handke pleaded not guilty to the offence at Yorkton Provincial Court January 28.

Unlawfully at large: Accused denied release

A Yorkton man accused of being unlawfully at large will remain in custody at least until Thursday. Jeffrey Mysko had been serving an intermittent 90-day sentence at Regina Correctional Centre when he failed to report back to jail on the weekend. He requested by video to be released to spend time with his ailing mother while awaiting a bail hearing on the new charges, but the Crown opposed on the grounds he was already serving time for not complying with the Court when the latest breaches occurred. Judge Ross Green ordered a bail report and set a bail hearing for January 31. Mysko will appear in person at Yorkton court on that day.

Public help: Theft of materials

RCMP in Yorkton are seeking the help of the public to solve the theft of a large amount of plywood from a work site located on Seventh Avenue South.
