Incident at business leads to five arrests

On May 8 at 9:29AM Yorkton Municipal and Yorkton General Investigations Section (GIS) RCMP were called to the inside of Wal Mart in Yorkton for an altercation in progress. One suspect was seen on surveillance footage holding a knife to the head of as well as slashing and stabbing at another man. Upon arrival, members located the suspect.

The male suspect was arrested without issue, while the injured male fled the scene. As a result of further investigation, a search warrant was obtained and executed at a hotel located in Yorkton. Located in the hotel room were guns, ammunition, weapons, drug paraphernalia and several drugs including marihuana and cocaine.

As a result, Jason Ford, 23-year-old male of Telka, BC was arrested and has been charged with assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm or prohibited weapon, unsafe storage of a firearm, causing a disturbance and possession of a controlled substance.

Emma Loverin, 18-year-old female of Smithers, BC, was arrested and has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance.

A 17-year-old Yorkton female (who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act) is facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

The third adult suspect, Colton Thomas Frank Labelle, 19, of Yorkton, was located and arrested on May 12 after a police pursuit.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on May 12, Yorkton RCMP Detachment received a 911 call that a suspect wanted on multiple arrest warrants was seen in a vehicle at a local business. Members then received a second call that the same vehicle was observed traveling south on Highway 10.

Members located the vehicle started to close the distance and attempt a stop, at which time the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to flee from police. A monitored pursuit was initiated involving several police vehicles along rural roads south of Yorkton. The suspect vehicle was soon stopped after colliding with a police vehicle. Two suspects were arrested without further incident.

No injuries were reported to either suspect. One RCMP member was treated for what appeared to be minor injuries.

As a result, Labelle is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, three counts of possession of controlled substance, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of firearm, causing a disturbance, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of motor vehicle while being pursued by police, assault on a Police Officer with a weapon, mischief over $5,000, driving while disqualified, operating an unregistered vehicle.
Scott Mehling, 31, is charged with assault on a Peace Officer, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and operating an unregistered vehicle. Mehling was not arrested in connection to the earlier incident, but instead due to charges stemming from the pursuit.

All have made their first appearance in Yorkton provincial court. Ford and Labelle remain in police custody, while Mehling and the youth have both been released on an undertaking. On Wednesday, May 16 at Yorkton Provincial Court, Loverin was released on $500 bail.
