Legacy Co-op celebrated the official grand opening of its Yorkton Liquor Store held on January 21, 2021. This is Legacy's first liquor store in the region.

Locally owned and operated, the Legacy Co-op Liquor store project started in June 2019 with the purchase of a retail store permit, and was completed in December 2020. Local contractor NL Construction worked with local subtrades to complete the project.  With the new liquor store, the co-op is expanding the services they offer the region, adding seven new local jobs and investing in the communities they serve.

Conveniently located adjacent to the Yorkton food store on Argyle street, the new store is highly accessible and offers the convenience of one stop shopping to members and community alike. It has a walk-in cooler, over 800 square feet, with refrigerated beer and coolers, offering a wide selection of products. “People can walk in, into the cooler, and pick their brand and kind of beverage, and come out,” says General Manager Bruce Thurston. “It will be nice to serve everyone from one location,” said Thurston, who stated that shoppers will be able to purchase groceries and liquor in one stop, “It’s very convenient for members and consumers who shop at Co-op,” he said.

The liquor store boasts more than 600 types and various sizes of wine in store, and an extensive selection of spirits, while also supporting many Saskatchewan brands.  Once Covid-19 restrictions allow the growler bar will open for use with Saskatchewan beer on tap for customers to fill their growlers, or howlers.

The official grand opening celebrations began January 21 with a ribbon cutting ceremony by board members Clark Anderson, Bruce Hansen, Wade Karcha, and Gene Krepakevich.  Yorkton Mayor Mitch Happsley was in attendance and addressed those gathered. “Congratulations to the newest addition to the Co-op brand here in Yorkton, and for your unrivaled history of dedication and support for the growth and development of our entire community.”, said Mayor Mitch Happsley. The grand opening celebrations continue with ten days of specials, giveaways and prize draws until January 31.
