The SaskTel Pioneer Club of Yorkton is set to celebrate the upcoming 10 year anniversary of the park on 35 Betts Avenue.

The anniversary will be marked June 24, from noon until 2 p.m., organization representative Jean Bryski told the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.

“The park on Betts Avenue was created as a “Diamond in the Rough” project to celebrate 60 years of pioneering in Saskatchewan. It officially opened in 2007,” she told Council.

“We maintain the park by planting flowers and doing a clean-up in the spring and fall. Our project was considered the largest undertaking in the province.

“The theme of the 60 years was to create a lasting legacy for pioneering.

“We are proud of our creation and will continue to make it a relaxing space for the citizens.”

Bryski told Council their group is part of the Telecom Pioneers which is an international organization, USA and Canada.

“We are the largest industry based volunteer organization in the world. Saskatchewan has over 4000 members,” she said.
