RCMP - Scam alert

The public is being notified that there is a scam going around regarding deceiving use of local RCMP detachment numbers. The call shows that it's coming from a detachment number, but that is false. The scammer convinces the victim that he or she owes money. The victim is then told to purchase Google Play cards and read the numbers back to the scammer. In one case the victim was scammed out of $2,000. Businesses are asked to be cognizant if they see large sums of Google Play or other cards being purchased.
