A Loon Lake woman pleaded guilty in connection to an incident where she attempted to run over an RCMP officer before plowing an SUV into a garage.
Jolene Nicole Sinclair, 35, had an appearance in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on June 25. She pleaded guilty to committing assault with a weapon (the SUV), operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner, being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a non-restricted firearm, and mischief for driving the SUV into the side of the garage.
Sinclair and Stephane Joseph Leclerc, 50, were arrested Jan. 18, 2020, after Loon Lake RCMP got a complaint from Pierceland RCMP about a suspicious man driving a grey SUV in a farmyard. Police found the vehicle on Hwy 26 north of Loon Lake and tried stopping it but the driver sped away.
Police soon located the SUV at a gas station in Makwa and arrested Leclerc, who was driving. But while an RCMP officer was taking Leclerc to a police truck, Sinclair, who was the passenger of the SUV, hit the officer from behind, grabbed a machete, got into the driver’s seat and tried to run him over while he was still on the ground. The officer was able to move himself to safety.
Sinclair, however, turned the SUV around and again sped towards the RCMP officer but she lost control and drove the SUV into the side of a nearby gas station. The officer wasn’t injured in the incident.
When police searched the vehicle, they found three semi-automatic handguns and five loaded magazines, bags of ammunition, a revolver, a machete, a black ski mask, leather gloves, knives and bolt cutters.
In April Leclerc pleaded guilty to seven weapons-related offences and was sentenced to 251 days in prison.
Sinclair will be sentenced on Aug. 6 in Loon Lake Circuit Court.
