On May 21, 2019, Wollaston Lake RCMP received a report that an off-duty officer had committed an assault at a residence in the community on the evening prior.
The officer was immediately placed on administrative duties and a criminal investigation was initiated.
On May 30, Corporal Luay Toma was arrested and charged with one count of Assault, Section 266 of the Canadian Criminal Code.
As a result, Cpl. Toma is now the subject of an internal RCMP Code of Conduct investigation and has been suspended with pay.
He will make his first appearance in Wollaston Lake Provincial Court on July 10, 2019.
