The City of Yorkton, in solidarity with the Government of Saskatchewan, has placed its flags at half-mast to pay its respects to Lieutenant Governor W. Thomas Molloy, who passed away on July 2nd after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

“He was well known in the province,” said MLA Greg Ottenbreit.

“From my perspective, he had a very long and respected career. He was very respected by people from all parties based on a lot of the work he had done over the years as a lawyer and also as a mediator, particularly around First Nations issues, which is, I think, why he was recognized by the federal government. Not only for his knowledge and legal expertise, but his years of work in many communities.”

Mayor Bob Maloney agreed.

“I found him to be knowledgeable and engaging about the province’s history. It’s always a huge loss when you lose someone like that.”

Premier Scott Moe felt similarly.

“Krista and I are saddened by the news of the passing of our Lieutenant Governor. On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan and people of our province, I offer my sincere condolences to Mr. Molloy’s family, and to the many that called him a friend. His Honour had a lasting impact on our province and nation in his five decades of dedicated services. His many contributions to the betterment of our country leaves a tremendous legacy that I hope provides his family with some comfort in this time of grief.”
