Herbert Edwin Fritzke (December 19, 1925 - August 14, 2014). On Thursday, August 14, 2014 in Yorkton, SK, Herb passed away to be with his Lord and Saviour surrounded by family. Herb was born in the Orcadia area; he was the second son of Gustav and Taofila (nee Schemmyng) Fritzke and brother to Oscar Fritzke and Tracey (Fritzke) Eisner. He accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Saviour at an early age and was baptised at the age of thirteen when he also became a member of West Ebenezer Baptist Church, striving to worship and praise the Lord every day. Herb loved to sing gospel songs, even if they weren't always on key, right to his last days with us. He loved farming with his mom and dad and he eventually took over the farm from them when they retired and moved to Vancouver, BC. Herb met and fell in love with Ivy Dickau and they were married June 1, 1955. They lived on the family farm where they raised their three children: Daryl, Sheryl and Bradley (Brad). In 1960, they sold the farm to the Government of Canada and it became the Canadian Radar Base - White Spruce. Herb and Ivy moved a short distance north to the Ed Jonat farm, which they farmed until their retirement. In 1990, Brad and his wife Janice took over the farm and Herb and Ivy moved into Springside where they enjoyed family, friends and their retirement. In 1996, Ivy passed away and a year later Herb had sold the house in Springside, purchased a mobile home and moved it to the farm north of Orcadia. He wanted to be close to Brad, Janice and their two daughters, Emily and Holly where he could help them and they could help him slowly heal from Ivy's death. Herb loved being on the farm again! His family was very important to him! In 2000, Brad and Janice sold the farm and relocated to York Lake and Herb moved in with them. Herb enjoyed the many new friends he met at the lake and out at the farm near Otthon. He especially enjoyed being able to spend the summers in Saskatchewan and winters in BC, where he spent time with his daughter, Sheryl Traber, her husband, Dale and their family. He really enjoyed spending his summers out at the farm in the Otthon area directing and correcting his boys on how to farm and driving his own personal John Deere lawnmower. He loved being on his own and where, as he always said, "Nobody bosses me around!" He enjoyed people dropping in for coffee, cookies and ice cream at the farm and later the visits at York Lake and even at the hospital where he spent some time this past year. As a young man, Herb attended and was a member of the West Ebenezer Baptist Church. Herb and Ivy also attended Central Baptist Church in Yorkton and later, when they retired in Springside, they attended Springside Baptist Church. For the last number of years, he attended Yorkton Alliance Church and Heritage Baptist Church, enjoying the ministries and many friends there. Herb leaves behind his three children and their families: Daryl (Ruth) Fritzke, Vanessa Fritzke and Tara Fritzke of Calgary, AB; Sheryl (Dale) Traber, Jocelyn Traber of Abbotsford, BC, James Traber of Vancouver, BC and Janelle Traber of Abbotsford, BC; and Brad (Janice) Fritzke, Emily (Andrew) Crow and Holly Fritzke of Yorkton, SK. He is also survived by his sister, Tracey (Fritzke) Eisner of Swan River, MB; his sisters-in-law, Irene (Dickau) Schaffer of Calgary, AB, Alice (Dickau) Meyers of Calgary, AB, Annis (Dickau) and Sam Teske of Calgary, AB, Roma (Dickau) and Alex Ortleib of Orange, CA and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Herb was predeceased by his wife, Ivy; his parents, Gustav and Taofila Fritzke; his brother, Henry Oscar (Joyce) Fritzke and his brother-in-law, Charles Eisner. Herb will be missed by all.
