Letter to the Editor: For better or worse in healthcare

Dear Editor,

As we see on TV. Re: Medicare Service – Waiting time improved?
Re: A family doctor – one is told they are not taking any more new patients! Go to the walk-in clinic – polite and helpful, up to a point. Again, one is told to go to their family doctor. Re: A referral to see a specialist. I hear a lot of public comments, plus my own. Our Medicare in Sask. is broken.
Recently I witnessed a new doctor that came from another city. He told me he’s here in Yorkton for only 3 months; after this, he is leaving for a small centre. So, here we go again, another doctor will probably be brought in, trained for 3 months, and then leave! Makes one ask: Is this for better or worse?
I can well remember several years ago when Sask. was the best Medicare in our country. Look where we are now! Many of us are hopeful that our new Premier is going to get things back on track.
In short, it makes one ask, are we getting better or worse?

Irene Svenson, Yorkton, SK.
