Wary of allowing Muslim traditions

Dear Editor: The Liberals and NDP are trying to make a wedge issue of the right of Muslim women alone to choose their dress.

Dear Editor:

The Liberals and NDP are trying to make a wedge issue of the right of Muslim women alone to choose their dress.  They are following the disastrous British policy which led to multiculturalism being replaced by biculturalism, where Muslim immigrants can choose to bring their own culture with them intact.

The result has been the radicalization of 20 per cent of the British Muslim population. 60 per cent of British Muslims think of themselves as Muslims first, citizens second.  Extreme fascist anti-Muslim groups are rising in response.

Headscarves and traditional dress are one thing, but the niqab and burka, and the demand for Sharia Law, are political symbols defended by Muslim radicals to prevent immigrants from the dangers of assimilation. It is not uncommon for young Muslim men to storm out of classes which have female teachers.

If we can’t insist that they assimilate to the extent of accepting women in classrooms, why allow them to immigrate at all?

Predictably, left-wing and civil rights groups are rising in outrage to the new anti-terrorist laws. We will be tricked into the Canadian Arab Federation’s attempt to make it a hate crime to use the words “terrorist” and “Muslim” in the same sentence. We may thus follow the media into voluntary self-censorship. As usual, Trudeau’s Liberals lead the charge.  To say that most terrorists are Muslim is not to say that most Muslims are terrorists, anymore than saying all fleas are insects implies all insects are fleas.

I have been NDP all my life. My grandfather and JS Woodsworth were the first two CCF MPs  elected in 1932. I am voting Harper now.
