ARMLEY — A roadside memorial at the site of the Humboldt Broncos bus collision will be built, but there are still a few hurdles to overcome.

The memorial, anticipated to be located at the Highway 35-335 intersection north of Tisdale, was confirmed at a press conference hosted by the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Committee and the City of Humboldt on April 5.

“North of Humboldt, a permanent roadside memorial will be constructed at the site of the tragedy, providing a quiet place to reflect on the lives of the sixteen angels that have been lost, the thirteen players whose lives have been forever changed, and the heroic efforts of so many who answered the call to help in the chaotic days that followed,” a media release said.

Joe Day, Humboldt’s city manager, said there is a small piece of land that has been dedicated for the memorial.

“There are a couple obstacles on site yet, as far as power lines and road accesses,” he said. “We're still trying to clear up some of those obstacles to ensure that we can get the proper design for that site.”

At the current moment, an impromptu memorial with crosses, jerseys and flowers remains.
