$100,000 winning ticket bought in Esterhazy

Diane Lucas had a hard time believing her eyes when she checked her WESTERN 649 ticket and discovered she won $100,000 on the August 24 EXTRA draw. She had an even harder time convincing her husband that she was telling the truth.

“I was scanning tickets on the Mobile app,” she said. “I got to this ticket and said to my husband, ‘We won.’ He looked at me and said, ‘Yeah, right.’”

“We went back and forth like that a few times; finally, I scanned the ticket again and told him to look,” she continued. “We both just sat there, staring at each other. We were too shocked to feel much.”

Lucas purchased her ticket at Tri-Star Food Ltd., located on Hwy 22 at 1201 East Drive in Esterhazy. She said she returned to the store shortly after scanning her ticket to check it yet again. She soon confirmed her ticket really was a $100,000 winner.

“We couldn’t believe it,” she said.

The happy winner said she isn’t rushing in to make any major plans for her winnings.

“We’re undecided right now,” she said. “We might take a family trip at some point, but for right now we’re just happy to have a bit of a financial cushion for our future.”

Lucas won the second-highest EXTRA prize by matching the last six digits of the drawn EXTRA number – 4923864.
