Esterhazy Council includes press via teleconferencing

The Town of Esterhazy held its council meeting on March 25, 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Council allowed the press to listen in via phone conference to encourage social distancing.

After the meeting was called to order it was noted the Town of Esterhazy Public Works Foreman and the Community and Recreation Officer are both in self-isolation.

The Town of Esterhazy Planning and Development Officer has suggested that the council not accept the request of a subdivision as requested.

The Community and Recreation Officer is in isolation but still working at home; her report was read by the Acting Administrator.

The staff is busy doing extra maintenance and extra cleaning in the arena. Workers at the arena are still maintaining social distancing and are in separate areas whenever possible.

The administration reported to the council that the towns of Bredenbury, Churchbridge, Esterhazy and Saltcoats have entered into an agreement for water sewer operator sharing if there were an emergency situation.

The Town of Esterhazy has applied for a “CAP Airport Grant”; this is a 50/50 cost-sharing grant.

The council also needed to amend motion number 92-20 due to a wording change.

Mayor Grant Forster was on CTV News talking about COVID-19 this week which was the only mayor/councilor report noted.

The council moved to Committee as a whole to discuss strategic planning after taking a 5-minute break.
