Kindersley RCMP: Officer discharge of firearm

Dog dies in incident
RCMP

On April 23, 2020, officers from the Kindersley RCMP Detachment attended a residence in Kindersley to conduct a conditions check on an individual who was recently released from custody.

While RCMP officers were in the process of checking the individual’s compliance with the conditions of release, a large aggressive dog located inside the residence confronted them. The dog broke free from an occupant inside the residence and ran through the open door, charging at the officers as they attempted to retreat.

Both officers drew their pistols as they retreated. To avoid being attacked by the dog, one of the officers fired a single round from his service pistol, which struck the dog and stopped its charge toward the officers.

The dog was later euthanized by animal control officers.

This incident is still under investigation and will include an Independent RCMP Officer review.
