Melfort RCMP arrest male following flight from police

On May 20, 2020, at 8:30 a.m., Melfort Combined Traffic Services (CTSS) attempted to stop a vehicle in the City of Melfort for travelling at a high rate of speed on Broadway Ave N. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer, which resulted in police pursuing the vehicle. During the pursuit, a CTSS vehicle and the suspect's vehicle were involved in a collision. Shortly after, the pursuit was discontinued due to public safely.  Officers from Melfort CTSS, Melfort Detachment, Prince Albert Police Dog Services, Nipawin Detachment, Tisdale Detachment and the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team continued to make patrols in attempt to locate the suspect vehicle.

 

Through further investigation, the vehicle was located abandoned in the RM of Willow Creek. Officers received valuable information from members of the public, which assisted with the arrest of the driver later that night.

 

45-year-old Gordon Webb, of Melfort, Saskatchewan, has been charged with the following:

 

·       Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited, Sec. 320.18 of the Criminal Code;  

·       Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, Sec. 320.16(1) of the Criminal Code;  

·       Flight from Police, Sec. 320.17 of the Criminal Code; and 

·       Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Sec. 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code.

Gordon Webb has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on May 22, 2020.
