Prairie Dog

Today, Aug. 10, 19-year-old Zoey Bourgeois will set off on a 250 km bicycle trek from Regina to Saskatoon.

She is using this personal challenge to call attention to the severe challenges faced today by local independent journalism throughout the province and the country.

Zoey is dedicating the ride to Regina's Prairie Dog magazine. Its recently formed community support group Friends of Prairie Dog is working to ensure the magazine can carry on its 25-year tradition as a vibrant source of information for the city.

Zoey expects the journey will take between 15 to 17 hours. She plans to set out by dawn on Saturday morning and she’ll be posting her progress along the way.  One concern will be wind direction and facing a head wind would multiply the challenge.  Depending on weather reports close to the departure time, it might be necessary to drive to Saskatoon and then cycle the other direction - 250 kms to Regina.
