Rocanville Golf Club looking at purchasing building

Rocanville Regional Library partially re-opens

At the regular Rocanville town council meeting on Wednesday, members of the Rocanville Town & Country Golf Club committee presented their plans to potentially purchase a building from the Village of Archerwill. For the entire project, the tentative budget is $300,000-$350,000.

Denise Kruppi and Kari Lesmeister had a projector and video set up and led the council through a virtual tour of the building. The building was previously a restaurant—it seats 80 people—and is already set up with the equipment needed for the clubhouse to serve food and beverages.

The plan would be to purchase the building and then have it moved to the location of the current clubhouse. In agreement with the Village of Archerwill, the Rocanville Golf Club would also need to purchase the land the building currently sits on.

The golf club would split the cost of cleaning up the land with the Village of Archerwill once the building has been relocated.

“They have to purchase the building and they have to move it,” said Administrator Monica Pethick. “It’s being sold by the bank in a repossession situation.

“We’re going to be doing major fundraising and look at all options,” said Kruppi. “We’ll be putting together a fundraising plan soon and applying for grants.”

The council will be sending a building inspector to take a look at the restaurant before making a decision on how or if they will contribute to helping the Rocanville Golf Club with their building plan. At the next council meeting they will revisit the topic with the building inspector’s input.

“I’m arranging an inspection because there’s no point in moving a building to get down here and find out there’s something wrong with it,” said Pethick. “They want to do this and we’ll be helping them with what we can, but not in a monetary way.”

Medical Centre Roof tender awarded

At the previous council meeting the council passed a motion to rescind the tin roof tender for the medical centre after the RM of Rocanville voiced their concerns about the dangers of a tin roof.

The tin roof concerns stemmed from the potential of snow sliding off the roof into public areas during the winter, a situation that was deemed too dangerous and something that could be avoided with shingles.

With the plan to look into shingle roof options, the council sent out requests for shingle roof quotes and received one back from Lepine’s Roofing.

The council passed a motion to award the medical centre roof tender to Lepine’s Roofing for the cost of $9,714.90.

The shingles Lepine’s Roofing will be installing are 30-year shingles.

Pool leak

The Town of Rocanville pool won’t be open for the time being due to a leak that needs to be repaired before it can be used.

Rocanville’s public works staff is currently working on fixing the problem and they’re draining the pool, but the task is ongoing as they try to locate the source of the leak.

Library partially re-open

The Rocanville Regional Library has partially re-opened as part of Saskatchewan’s Covid-19 reopening plan. Branches of the Southeast Regional Library have begun a partial reopen as of June 28.

With guidance from the Southeast Regional Library, there will be pre-opening services available at the library that includes contactless curbside pick-ups.

“Our reopen plans have been developed with the health and safety of employees and patrons as a top priority, in accordance with evidence-based best practices of others in the library community, other sectors, and in alignment with the Provincial Library and Literacy Office requirements, guidelines, and plans,” said Southeast Regional Library Director Kate-Lee Nolin in a letter to the Town of Rocanville.

“The door’s not open,” said Administrator Monica Pethick. “They can do book collections and things like that, but people can’t actually go into the building yet.”
