Rocanville to promote Cameron Crescent lots

At the regular Rocanville town council meeting on Wednesday, the council discussed plans to promote the lots that are for sale on Cameron Crescent.

At the regular Rocanville town council meeting on Wednesday, the council discussed plans to promote the lots that are for sale on Cameron Crescent.

The town currently has a sign up to promote the sale of lots, but they’re thinking of ways to help supplement the promotion.

The council is considering, rather than purchasing more signs, having a mobile sign to move around to make it more eye catching when it’s in different locations.

They will also be looking into potentially making some online posts via social media to help with the promotion of Cameron Crescent lot sales.

School staff parade

With school being physically out due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Rocanville School staff planned a physical distancing parade on Friday.

The parade involved school staff, as well as members of the police and fire departments waving to kids.

The council was glad to see that despite the current situation, there’s still a strong sense of community in Rocanville.

The parade went right through town for all members of the community to see and participate in.

Fireworks

As the event and activity cancellations pile up, the Town of Rocanville is still hoping to have some sort of fireworks celebration.

The planned Rocanville Community Days have had to be cancelled at this point, but Mayor Daryl Fingas thinks they may still be able to have fireworks.

By following proper physical distancing protocol and having members of the community stay in their cars, the council thinks there’s a good chance they can have a fireworks event.

The council wants to do something for the community during these trying times and will discuss this possibility further at future meetings.

Medical centre roof

The Rocanville Medical Centre needs roof work and the council has decided to look into some options.

As it stands, they’re going to look into getting roof quotes from some businesses and will decide which ones at a future meeting.

The majority of the council agreed a tin roof is likely the best option for the medical centre and will look into different options for obtaining quotes.

With tin they agreed it will cost more, but it will last longer and need less maintenance.

There’s no exact timeline on the project, but the goal is to have quotes together by June.

Budget prep

With the Town of Rocanville’s budget coming up, there was discussion among the council about when it will be set.

The goal is to have the budget set over the next few weeks as Administrator Monica Pethick looks at some different options to show the council.

The council agreed that with the Covid-19 pandemic going on there will be some different impacts to consider than in previous years.

Water key fobs

The council is pleased with the Town of Rocanville’s recent implementation of key fobs at the bulk water fill up station. With the new system the town is able to remotely disable key fobs from the town office of those who don’t pay their bill for bulk water. This new system has also cut down on wasted water because it only dispenses the exact amount. The new water key fob system costs the town $600 per year.
