Recently, Esterhazy and Saltcoats received word that the Province of Saskatchewan has agreed on their share of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) Grant program before sending it to Ottawa for the federal government’s stamp of approval.

The Town of Esterhazy will receive a provincial commitment of $9,974,003 for the Esterhazy Regional Water System. The estimated total cost of the project is $29,925,000 with the potential federal share coming to $11,970,000. The applicant committed amount is $7,980,997. The Municipality of Esterhazy needs an updated water treatment plant so the council looked at the situation. After consulting with nearby towns and RMs, it was decided to apply for a grant to build a regional water treatment plant.

Normally the town would build a treatment plant to sustain 2500 people, roughly the population of Esterhazy. The council proposed building the plant far bigger to offer neighbouring towns and Mosaic the opportunity to join the regional water treatment system.

Towns like Atwater, Stockholm and Yarbo, or entities like Mosaic could tie into the system for a fraction of the cost it would take to build a treatment plant of their own, and all would benefit.

As the water system may go to other towns, farmers in the RM could also tap into the system and receive treated water on the farm, rather than relying on existing wells. The Town of Saltcoats will receive a provincial commitment of $64,033.00 for the Saltcoats Landfill Corrective Action and Closure. The estimated total cost of the project is $192,100 with the potential federal share coming to $64,033.00 The applicant committed amount is $64,033.00.

Due to regulations, a lot of small-town landfills are required to close. Saltcoats applied for the ICIP grant to assist in the costs of this cleanup and closure of their local landfill.
