Small Business reaction to Saskatchewan Throne Speech

From Canadian Federation of Independent Business

The CFIB’s Marilyn Braun-Pollon will be available to provide comments at the Legislative Building directly following the delivery of the Provincial Throne Speech this afternoon.

CFIB will be closely monitoring today’s Throne Speech with respect to policies that will help restore small business confidence and continue to address Saskatchewan’s outstanding competitive challenges.

“Given Saskatchewan’s small business optimism remains weak, we need today’s Throne Speech to send the right signals that will further improve Saskatchewan’s small business climate,” noted Marilyn Braun-Pollon, CFIB’s Vice-President, Prairie and Agri-business.

“We know small businesses have been hit with many cost increases and much uncertainty,” added Braun-Pollon. “There is little doubt some of the major contributing factors are related to the costly federal carbon tax, ongoing Ag trade uncertainty with China, and the significant delays in harvest across Saskatchewan.”

“This week, we are celebrating Small Business Week, a time when our country recognizes our small and medium-sized business owners and applauds the many contributions they make to our communities from coast to coast,” concluded Braun-Pollon. “Saskatchewan is home to the highest rate of small businesses in Canada in 2018, with 129 small businesses for every 1,000 people, compared to 110 nationally. We hope all levels of government will make small business issues a priority.”
