The Yorkton Midget AA Kinsmen Terriers are the 2017 South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League Midget champions.

The Kinsmen Terriers beat the Estevan Apex AA Bruins in the league final. It was a best-of-five series and Yorkton got their three wins in four games.

The final was played at the Farrell Agencies Arena in Yorkton on Sunday, Mar. 26.

The entire series was close between Yorkton and Estevan, and that was no different in the final game.

The final score was 2-1.

There were no goals in the first period of play, but Estevan started off the scoring in the second period. Jacob Palmer capitalized on an opportunity and would be the only one to make the scoreboard in that period.

But Yorkton had what seemed to be a good team chat at second intermission, and came out ready to go in the third. Carter Lake scored to tie the game about two minutes into the third, with assists from Luke Schappert and Carson Dereniwsky.

Then, with six minutes left in the game, Michael Coleridge scored the game winner for the Kinsmen Terriers. His assists came from Vaughn Wilgosh and Luke Schappert.

Those two goals solidified the Kinsmen Terriers the league title.

The season still isn’t over for the Kinsmen Terriers. Their league championship advances them to the provincial final.
