A large crowd turned out for a boxing clinic last weekend at the Flexihall..

A crowd came out for the City's boxing clinic and it was so good, even the instructor of 30 years teaching the sport admitted he was a little awestruck.

This was his first time teaching boxing here in Yorkton and by the sounds of it he is looking to make a return appearance.

"The turnout was fantastic. I'm actually a little overwhelmed," offered Morgan Williams, a Level III boxing coach.

This was coming from someone who fought and has trained fighters for at least 30 years.

The City of Yorkton's Youth Sport and Swim Nights put on a learn-how-to-box clinic at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall and was very very well attended to.

He said he is no stranger to the contact sport of boxing.

"I started (teaching) just after I stopped boxing," he told the paper, which turns out to be about 30 years.

He had to be good at what he does because he also told the paper his then-coach started paying him to do physical fitness.

He's taught at the Athol College of Notre Dame.

His current club, the Lonsdale Boxing Club is "the best club in western Canada", he said.

Among his teaching points Friday night in Yorkton were a series of left jabs, right jabs, various defences and footwork.

Williams said he wants to teach as much of what he knows because he said the sport gave him a lot.

"The sport gave me a lot. It taught me a lot of very important skills."
