The Yorkton Cardinals have signed a new head coach for the 2016 summer season.

Omaha, Nebraska, native Bryn Biancalana will be the new bench boss for the Cardinals this season, taking over for former Cardinal player and coach Kameron Mizzell.

Biancalana comes with a baseball pedigree as his father, former Major League infielder Buddy Biancalana, spent parts of six seasons in the MLB with Kansas City and Houston, winning the World Series in 1985 as a member of the Royals.

Biancalana is a current Zone Training Instructor at Perfect Mind, Perfect Motion Baseball Academy.

He also has experience in the Western Major Baseball League, previously coaching the Edmonton Prospects (2011) and Saskatoon Yellow Jackets (2012), and is excited for the opportunity to work with Bill Sobkow and to be in Yorkton for the 2016 season. “I’m very excited about the opportunity to come to Yorkton,” said Biancalana, continuing, “I feel comfortable and I’m excited to work with Bill Sobkow, who has recruited the best player in WMBL history (in the past).”

Biancalana expects the 2016 Cardinals to be competitive within the WMBL, but warns fans that the long ball might not be as prevalent as some might hope. “We won’t have a lot of power hitters, but we should pitch well enough, and have a very dynamic offense that will be near the top of league in stolen bases and runs scored.”

Biancalana’s Cardinals will open the 2016 season in Melville Saturday, May 28 before returning home for their home opener Sunday, May 29 against the same Millionaires at 7:00pm.
