Howland Honey Open held

Disc golf event at Good Spirit Provincial Park

The rains stayed away, and clouds kept the temperatures reasonable, making Sunday almost ideal for the Howland Honey Disc Golf Open.

It was the second year for the event at the Under the Spruce Disc Golf Course at Good Spirit Provincial Park, last year having to be cancelled due to course damage when wind uprooted a number of trees.

In the Open Division Tyler Boychuk tool top spot scoring a 113 over 36 baskets, (58 + 55) for a minus-three. The nine basket course is a par 28. Logan Coutts was second at 114 (58 + 56) –minus-two, and Nicholas Leclerc third at 115 (59 + 56) for a minus-one.

In the 50-plus Division Doug Kerr shot a120 (61 + 59) plus-four for the win. Trevor Lyons was 135 (69 + 66) plus-19, and Calvin Daniels a 141 (71 + 70) plus-25.

As Parkland Association of Disc Golf members Kerr and Lyons qualify for the PADG Championship Challenge in October.

In the Ladies Division Sandy Kerr shot a 157 (83 + 74) plus-41, and as a PADG member and top female Sunday also qualifies for the October event.
