The Yorkton RawTec Maulers had another weekend of hockey games on the road. Playing against the Beardy’s Blackhawks on Saturday, and the Saskatoon Blazers on Sunday, the Maulers came away with three of four possible points.

The midget AAA team has been away from home ice since Oct. 18, but that will change this week.

In Saturday’s match up against the Beardy’s Blackhawks, an overtime period was necessary to crown the winner. A 4-4 tie after regulation time pushed it into a fourth period, but the Blackhawks would be the ones to strike first. The final score was 5-4.

The first period was goalless for both teams. In the second, the Blackhawks racked up a 3-0 lead. All three goals were scored on the power play.

Before the second period finished, the Maulers got two goals of their own to shorten the gap. Those goals came from Ryder Korczak and Aiden Bulych (PP).

In the third period, both teams came out strong. Maulers’ forward Korczak would score another one to tie the game. But just seconds later, the Blackhawks would take advantage of another power play and score again to give them a 4-3 lead. Before the period wrapped up, Jackson Berezowski tied the game up for the Maulers, and forced the over time period.

The penalty sheet after Saturday’s game was a long one, with a chippy game executed from both sides.

On Sunday afternoon, the Maulers continued their road trip to Saskatoon where the faced the Blazers. This contest would result in a win for the Maulers, 5-3.

Although the Blazers started off the scoring in the first period, the Maulers responded with three goals to give them the 3-1 lead going into the second.

The Blazers were able to use the second period to catch up, bumping the score up to 3-3.

But in the third, the Maulers took control and scored two more to give them their 5-3 win. Yorkton’s goals came from Jake Huska (2), Jordan Repsch (2) and Keanan Sperling.

This week, the Maulers finally get to return to the Farrell Agencies Arena for game action, and it’s a busy weekend.

On Thursday, they face off against the Moose Jaw Generals at 8 p.m. at the F.A.A.  Then they’ll play back-to-back games against the Swift Current Legionnaires. But those games won’t be regular games – they’ll be part of the Maulers’ annual Paint the Rink Pink fundraiser.

On Saturday, the puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, the puck will drop at 12 p.m.
