Saltcoats ball diamonds upgraded

Richardson Foundation donates $30,000

On June 26, the Saltcoats Ball Diamond improvement Committee had their Grand Opening of Richardson Field at the Saltcoats Regional Park.

The Richardson Foundation donated $30,000 to the project and in recognition of this, the field will be named Richardson Field for the next five-years.

Saltcoats has had a recent revival of baseball over the last few years, with over 75 kids playing minor ball this year in various age groups.

The grand opening game featured the two Mosquito baseball teams that play on the Saltcoats fields.

Tom Courville and Brian Woloshyn represented the Richardson Foundation and presented the Saltcoats Ball Diamond Improvement Committee with a cheque for the $30,000.

Tom Courville said that the Foundation was proud to partner with Saltcoats, as they shared the vision presented to them that communities need to provide opportunities for their youth to be active and engaged.

The evening was topped off with the announcement that Saltcoats will host  Pee Wee Provincials July 26-28 of this year.

In total the Ball Diamond Improvement Committee has raised in excess of $82,000 to rebuild two ball diamonds at the Regional Park.

Plans are already underway to rebuild the main diamond, Diamond #1 to be ready for Bantam and Midget baseball.
