The Saltcoats Lakers were hoping for a berth in the 2019 13U Baseball Provincial Championship Tier 6) final on their home turf.

But, to get to the final this afternoon they had to get past the Humboldt Dodgers Sunday morning.

Playing on their home field at the Saltcoats Regional Park the Lakers were down early, but when Wyatt Evans drove in Luke Morgan in the final at-bat, the home side were on to the final thanks to a 4-3 win.

“It was another comeback, our third one, (in four games),” said Lakers coach Mike Farquharson.

Asked if that meant they were becoming the comeback kids, the coach said “I think we’ll have to start calling them something like that.”

Farquharson said it was a case of the Lakers staying focused.

“I’m pretty sure that everybody was trying to keep it (the excitement), on inside. They did a pretty good job,” he said.

The win was obviously a big one.

“The kids have been outstanding. It’s been pretty cool,” said Farquharson

Heading into the weekend tourney Farquharson said they had one thing in mind.

“Our goal was to be playing Sunday,” he said, adding making the final was something they hadn’t been expecting, but were excited to be in.

The Lakers opponents in the final would be Weyburn who has outlasted Lloydminster 19-14 in the other semi final game.
