In light of Friday night’s tragedy which has struck our provincial hockey community, the Saskatchewan Hockey
Association (SHA) has made the decision to cancel the Male SaskFirst Tournament scheduled to take place in
Regina this coming weekend. We feel it is a priority for players and their families to be together as we all mourn
the lost lives and pray for the survivors, families and communities affected by this horrific accident. In addition we
want to ensure players and families close to those affected are able to attend services without conflict.

For those involved in the SaskFirst Bantam Program, the evaluations completed at the SaskFirst Showcase
Tournament in late December will serve as a basis for the decision of which players will be moving on in the
process to create Team Saskatchewan and represent the province at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer in
February, 2019. In addition, with the hockey season nearing its official conclusion we feel scouts from across
Western Canada have already had ample opportunities to watch and evaluate players.

The Bantam and Midget SaskFirst Tournaments are held annually and in partnership with the Western Hockey
League (WHL), and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).

We understand the magnitude of this situation and the effect it will have on many hockey families in our province
and would like to provide the following options for support, if needed.
Mobile Crisis Line – (306)757-0127
Kids Help Phone – 1-800-668-6868

“We sincerely hope that everyone involved understands the decision we have made and we ask that you keep the
individuals from the Humboldt Broncos and the families in your thoughts and prayers,” stated Kelly McClintock,
General Manager of SHA.
