The Sacred Heart girls soccer team advanced to the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association (SHSAA) provincials.

The provincials will be this weekend (Oct. 28-29) in Regina.

The girls soccer team of Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) did it on the strength of a 6-0 win in the regional semi-final over Humboldt on Saturday, reports Jeanne Fetsch, SHHS coach.

"Humboldt had the home field advantage playing host to the Regional tournament this year. The game was very close in the first half with Sacred Heart able to score only one goal off the foot of Rita Fetsch on a setup from Shayla Merriam."

Coach Fetsch said they broke things wide open in the second half. Kristen Jonassen scored twice off of corner kicks from Samantha Okrainec to make it 3-0.

Jonassen completed the hat trick with a beautiful free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Rita Fetsch also scored a hat trick netting two more goals for the win. Raquel Hackman wasn't extremely busy in the net but was solid when called upon to make the saves to keep the shut out.

The Saints played last year's provincial champion Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney in the Regional final and came up on the short end of a 4-0 score. The Saints had only an hour in between the two games and were a little tired in the game versus Saskatoon. Saskatoon has many club players and proved to be too strong for the Saints. During this game, central defender Kaitlyn Inglis came out of the game due to an injured ankle. Kristen Jonassen filled the spot nicely but the Saints lost a bit of offence by playing Jonassen back. The Saints are hoping to have Inglis back and playing by Friday.

The provincial tournament will be held in Regina beginning Friday. The Saints begin the tournament against Moose Jaw Vanier at 11 a.m., Friday at Mount Pleasant Park.
