The annual hockey game fundraiser is set for March 21. The staff of both Yorkton high schools will face off against the students in a fun game at the Farrell Agencies Arena.


The annual hockey game fundraiser is set for March 21. The staff of both Yorkton high schools will face off against the students in a fun game at the Farrell Agencies Arena. Money raised from ticket sales will go to benefit a pair of students from MC Knoll Elementary School in Yorkton. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League matchups have been set. In the Sherwood Conference, the Terriers will play Melville in a best-of-seven series scheduled to begin this Friday night at the Farrell Agencies Arena (for more, see story on Page A17). In the Survivor Series, Notre Dame takes on Estevan with the winner meeting the first-place Weyburn Red Wings.


East Central District playoff basketball action will be starting up soon. All games to take place March 2 at the Yorkton Regional High School. At 3 p.m., the YRHS plays Langenburg. At 4:30 p.m., Preeceville plays Yorkdale Central Public School. At 6 p.m., Melville plays Esterhazy and at 7 p.m., Canora plays Sturgis. The national championships of women's curling is taking place in Red Deer as 12 teams battle for Canadian curling supremacy. Among the teams competing is Team Michelle Englot. Englot got off to a good start over the weekend, competing in the second, third and fourth draws, winning two of her first three games. Englot is playing with Lana Vey, Roberta Materi and Yorkton's Sarah Slywka. Slywka is playing in her first Scotties tournament.


The Sacred Heart High School and Yorkton Regional High School's senior boys basketball teams will be playing next month. The YRHS team will be hosting a round-robin tournament on March 2-3 for four teams. While the SHHS team will be hosting basketball conference play the following weekend.
