St. Michael's students have a good day at the ECD qualifying meet

Ecole St. Michael's School fared well at the Yorkton Catholic Elementary Track Meet May 17 at Kinsmen Century Field in Yorkton.

Notes Gary Forgeron of Ecole St. Michael's School, the members of the school team worked hard to finish in the top three in 45 of the 62 events held. Included in the day's events was a three-way tie for first place in the same race.

In the boys' 400-metre dash for the bantam age group, Hunter Arnold (pictured far right on Page A19) and Ecole St. Michael's School teammate Kylan Shea both crossed the finish line at the same time; as well as Brandon Pelletier of St. Alphonsus School. Finish time was recorded at 1:27:57.

Arnold took time away from his classes on Friday afternoon to talk about the day.

"Yeah, it was a funny day," he cracked. "We did really good (overall)," he said of his school.

Asides from the tie in the 400-metre, he also participated in the 100-metre, the shot put and the high jump.

He achieved the same result in the 100-m, as he did in the 400-m., but reported that he wasn't overly thrilled with either performance in the last two events, shot put or high jump.

"Not far," he responded when asked how much distance he collected when it was his turn in shot put.

"Sad," he answered of his efforts in the high jump. He was moreso pleased with his performances in the sprints.

"I'd say the 100-m (was my best). I did alright in the 100-m., but I didn't think I'd get first."

Other notable finishes from the school included Sydney Mrozowich. She scored 3.94 metres in the girls long jump and 1.30 metres in the girls high jump.

Jaret Porte collected two firsts, one second place and a fourth place. He placed first in the 400-m., and the 800-m., came in second in the 1500-m., and fourth in the 200-m.

Austin Ross threw the ball nine metres far in boys shot put, which was good for second place. He lost to teammate Jake Kustra who launched it 1.42 metres farther to take gold.

Tate Chopity of St. Alphonsus rounded out the top three in pee wee boys shot put with a 7.86 metre throw.

Ross said he didn't think he was going to be able to throw it nine metres and added that it was his personal best to date. Other finishes saw Taryn Kustra place first in the girls 200-m dash. St. Mary's student Raena McNabb came in third.

In the girls 400-m dash sneaker division Camryn Danchilla of St. Paul's came in first. Teammates Katelyn Spilchuk and McKenna Sherstabitoff, both of St. Michael's, came in second and third.

In the girls 800-m dash sneaker, Madison Varga and Katelyn Spilchuk both of St. Michael's came in second and third to Chace Sperling of St. Theodore.

In the girls 1500-m dash sneaker, Madison Varga of St. Michael's placed first. Lena Payne and Camryn Danchilla, both of St. Paul's School, rounded out the top three.

Raena McNabb of St. Mary's won in the girls high jump sneaker category. She edged out Emileigh McClenaghan and Lena Payne, both of St. Paul's to round out the top three.

Taryn Kustra, Chace Sperling and Tamara Butchko placed 1-2-3 in the girls long jump sneaker division.

Payton Dobko of St. Alphonsus won the gold by over two metres over Raena McNabb and Shingoose Rihanna, both of St. Mary's.

Emma Pindus of St. Paul's, Megan Varga of St. Michael's and Raeleigh Churko of St. Alphonsus placed 1-2-3 in the girls 200-m dash wee pee.

In the girls 400-m dash, Kyra Harris and Janeen Pellatt both of St. Michael's, placed 1-2. Emma Holowatuik of St. Paul's rounded out the top three in the girls 400-m dash wee pee.

There were five entries in the girls 800-m dash wee pee category: Kyra Harris took first for St. Michael's with a gold medal time of 3:18:25. Angel Asapace placed second for St. Mary's with her time of 3:23:00 and Madison Neufeld of St. Michael's came third at 3:35:00.

Asapace and Harris also competed in the 1500-m dash, placing first and second while Megan Varga won the race at 6:24:00.

In girls wee pee high jump, Janeen Pellatt, Emma Pindus and Cassidy Mansuy rounded out the top three finishes.

In girls wee pee long jump, Pindus, Pellatt and Raeleigh Churko came in 1-2-3.

In girls other ball throw wee pee, Sarah Campbell, representing the St. Paul's Patriots, came in first, Tessa Chornomud came in second for St. Michael's, and Jordan Holinaty, also of St. Paul's rounded out the top three.

In the girls 200-m dash Pee Wee, Madison Butchko and Lauren Maier, both of St. Michael's came in first and third. Kelsey Marshall was sandwiched in between for St. Paul's.

In the girls 400-m dash Pee Wee division, Shelby Hnatuk came in first place representing the St. Alphonsus Angels, while Allison Berge and Amy Liang of St. Michael's.

In the girls 800-m dash Pee Wee, Spilchuk Chelsea came first for St. Michael's while Brooke Vranai of St. Paul's placed in second and Alexis Guy of St. Mary's came in third.

Allison Berge also placed first in the girls 1500-m dash Pee Wee, coming in at 6:31:84. Guy came in at 6:35:31 and Spilchuk Cassidy rounded out the top three at 6:45:13.

Sydney Mrozowich of St. Michael's collected her first of two gold medals in the girls pee wee high jump, her second gold medal came in the pee wee high jump. Kelsey Marshall and Berge came in second and third in the high jump. Guy and Butchko came in second and third in the long jump.

In girls shot put pee wee, Erica Ford came in first for St. Michael's at 8.25-m. Hannah Efford and Kelsey Marshall, of St. Alphonsus and St. Paul's respectively, rounded out the top three finishes.

In the girls 200-m dash bantam division, Kendra Varjassy of St. Paul's took first place. Shaelyn Slusarchuk of St. Alphonsus came in second and Ashley Hume of St. Paul's rounded out the top three placings.

There were only four entries in the girls 400-m dash bantam division. Varjassy took first with a time of 1:15:59, Breanne Krochak-Mak took second for St. Alphonsus at 1:26:97 and Esther Okeny rounded out the top three for St. Mary's at 1:32:85.

In the girls 800-m dash bantam, Madison Kowalchuk of St. Michael's came in first at a time of 3:06:00, Kaitlyn Krochak-Mak placed in second for St. Alphonsus and Delainey DePape placed in third, also from St. Michael's at 3:19:00.

She also won first place in the girls 1500-m, an event taken by St. Michael's. Finishing in second was Jessica Rohatynsky. Finish times were 7:08:74 and 7:18:15, respectively.

In girls high jump for the bantam level, St. Paul's won when Ashley Hume completed a 1.31-m jump. St. Michael's took second and third when Darrian Enns and Kathryn Lohnes rounded out the top three with heights of 1.30-m, and 1.20-m.

In the bantam girls long jump, Lauren Mansuy and Tracy Prybylski, both of St. Paul's went 1-2 while Rohatynsky took her second top three placing when she finished in third place. Winning jumps were 3.98-m, 3.74-m, and 3.67-m.

In bantam shot put, Dakotah Cmoc of St. Paul's threw for 8.07-m, Breanne Krochak-Mak of St. Alphonsus threw for 7.20-m, and Prybylski threw for 7.10-m.

Lydia Hilton of St. Alphonsus won the midget girls long jump with her score of 2.20-m.

She collected her second first-place finish in midget girls shot put, winning by .02 metres over Taylor Favel of the St. Mary's Crusaders. Hilton's score was 6.35-metres.

Kaedan Korczak of St. Michael's won the boys' 200-m dash. Dalton Trowell of St. Mary's finished in second and Jairus Pellatt also of St. Michael's finished in third.

In the boys 400-m dash sneaker division, Carson Sveinbjornson and Pellatt came 1-2 and Vincent Receno rounded out the top three.

Sveinbjornson also won the 800-m dash sneaker over Ethan Evanovich of St. Theodore and Koen Kucher-Paulmark of St. Michael's.

In the boys 1500-m dash Colby Vranai, Nolan Maier and Ryder Korczak placed 1-2-3 with times of 5:49, 5:50 and 6:04.

In the boys' high jump sneaker division, Christian Arvay, Kaedan Korczak and Carson Sveinbjornson placed 1-2-3 with scores of 1.21-m, 1.17-m and 1.13-m.

Korczak also got a second place finish in the long jump sneaker event. Pellatt came second and Mitchell Madsen of the St. Theodore Aces placed third.

In boys ball throw, Ethan Allen of St. Alphonsus placed first, Jesse Todas and Ivan Gawryliuk, of St. Michael's came in second and third.

In boys 200-m dash wee pee, Jacob Pindus of St. Paul's finished first, Keanan Sperling of St. Theodore finished in second and Christian Smith of St. Paul's finished third.

In the boys 400-m dash wee pee, Parker Huber of St. Alphonsus finished first while Alec Zawatsky and Christian Smith placed second and third.

It was Huber's first of three first-place finishes. He also came out on top in the boys 800-m and the boys 1500-m.

in the 800-m , Grady Hawkins and Zach Goulden-Maddin rounded out the top three representing St. Alphonsus and the St. Michael's Stars.

The 1500-m event had the same finishers complete in the same order of finish.

Hawkins moved up one in the boys high jump, taking first while Mason DeVos and Zack Fleury rounded out the top three.

Jacob Pindus, Dane Tagawa and Alec Zawatsky placed 1-2-3 in the boys long jump wee pee event.

Reid Perepeluk, DeVos and Austin Walkington placed 1-2-3 in the boys ball throw event.

Ben Koroluk, Jacob Kustra and Liam Cherry placed 1-2-3 in the boys 200-m dash Pee Wee division.

Jaret Porte, Nathan Cochrane and Mathew Todas, all of St. Michael's, went 1-2-3 in the boys 400-m dash Pee Wee.

Bode Fisher, Todas and Haydn Galenzoski placed 1-2-3 in the boys 800-m dash Pee Wee.

Koroluk made it two gold medals when he won the boys 1500-m dash Pee Wee. Also finishing in the top three were Porte and Stephen Oleskiw, all of St. Michael's.

Evan Gleason, Jacob Kustra and Todas finished 1-2-3 in the boys high jump Pee Wee division.

Koroluk won his third top finish, Kustra placed in second and Brayden Gabriel came in third place in the boys long jump Pee Wee category.

Kustra took top honours in boys shot put, and Austin Ross of St. Michael's and Tate Chopity of St. Alphonsus came in third.

Cole Burkholder of St. Michael's won the bantam boys 200-m dash. Also placing in the top three were Kylan Shea and Brody Kormos.

Shea was also part of a three-way tie for first in the boys 400-m dash, along with Hunter Arnold and Brandon Pelletier of St. Alphonsus.

St. Michael's also had a strong showing in the 800-m dash. Burkholder won while Kade Johnson finished in second place.

Burkholder also placed first in the 1500-m dash, Johnson finished third and Zachariah Kostersky finished in the middle.

Ryvir Hine, Brody Schmidt and Bryan Buzinski placed 1-2-3 in the bantam boys high jump.

Hine and Schmidt finished 2-3 in the boys long jump while Shea placed in first.

In the boys bantam shot put, Madison Wasylyniuk and AJ Rushleau, both of St. Paul's placed 1-2. Kirkland Pachal of St. Alphonsus came in third.

Mackenzie Johnson, also of St. Alphonsus, came in first in the boys 100-m. high jump, long jump and the shot put.

The East Central Districts of track and field are scheduled for today and tomorrow at the Kinsmen Century Field.
