The Yorkton Senior Curling Social was held at the Gallagher Center this past week. There were 16 rinks in attendance, 10 local and 6 from out of town. Local rinks were drawn up just before the bonspiel and each rink had to have at least 1 woman on it. There were 4 events and each rink was guaranteed 4 games. This year everyone took part in the Hot Shots. This included a draw to the button, a hit and roll to the button, and ties were broken by a hit and stick. It was a fun bonspiel that ended with a great banquet and dance, with music by Ed Hickie.

The winner of the First Event was the Lorne Fruin rink of Yorkton defeating the Fred Donald rink of Yorkton.

Fruin’s team consisted of Matt Novak at lead, Myrna Grunert at second, and Frank Woloschuk at third.

Second Event winner was the Jim Millham rink of Yorkton defeating the Gordon Spokes rink of Bangor.

Millham’s team members were Gordon Krett as lead, Sharon Pfeifer as second, Nick Andrusiak at third.

Third Event winner was the Curt Orth team from Langenburg who defeated the Jerry Kaeding rink of Churchbridge.

Orth’s team consisted of Theresa Rushka as lead, James Rushka as second, Tom Werle at third.

The Fourth Event winner was the Neil Weinmaster rink from Yorkton, defeating Dave Zbeetnoff rink also of Yorkton.

Weinmaster rink included Floyd Fenske as lead, Faye Andrusiak second, Lorne Wanner as third.

Event organizers would like to thank the Yorkton Crossing for sponsoring the “Hot Shots.” The 2018 hot shooters were:

James Rushka of Langenburg in first place, Al Ellingboe of Yorkton in second and Tom Werle of Langenburg the third place winner.

Special thank you goes out to Louck’s Pharmacy, the Yorkton Co-op, Zad Enterprises, Hearn’s Pharmacy, and Yorkton Crossing for making this event possible, and also the Medicine Shoppe and Pharmacy and everyone who donated to the raffle table. This community support makes good things happen. Thank you.
