Yorkton Yankees host baseball provincials

Last weekend, the Yorkton E&S Yankees hosted the Baseball Sask senior men’s tier II provincials at Jubilee Park. The Border City Blue Jays captured the provincial title after beating the Oxbow Chiefs in the final 7-0.

Last weekend, the Yorkton E&S Yankees hosted the Baseball Sask senior men’s tier II provincials at Jubilee Park. 

The Border City Blue Jays captured the provincial title after beating the Oxbow Chiefs in the final 7-0.

Eight teams participated in the tournament: Yorkton Yankees, Border City Blue Jays, Estevan Tower Wolves, Cabri River Rats, Carlyle Cardinals, Kindersley Clippers, Swift Current Yard Goats and Oxbow Chiefs.

The Yorkton Yankees, who recently won the SESBL championship, had a strong showing in the provincial tournament. They placed third overall with a 3-2 record. They lost in semi-finals. 

On Friday, the Yankees faced the Cabri River Rats and won 5-3. On Saturday they played two games. The first was against the Estevan Tower Wolves, and the Yankees lost 15-5. 

The second game on Saturday was against the Border City Blue Jays and Yorkton took the win 8-6. 

On Sunday morning, the Yankees played in a tiebreaker against the Estevan Tower Wolves and took the win 5-3. This win secured them the spot in the semi-final match against the Oxbow Chiefs, in which they lost 1-0.
