The Yorkton Regional High School Raider boys’ soccer team competed in the SHSAA 3A provincial tournament hosted by Balgonie this past weekend.

Their first matchup on Friday morning against Swift Current at Liebel Field provided the Raiders with a decisive 10-0 win. Friday’s noon game against Saskatoon’s Centennial High School at the University of Regina was a much greater challenge. The Raiders lost to Centennial, a soccer academy high school, 2-0. Centennial went on to win provincial gold against Regina Miller.

The Raiders played Prince Albert Carleton on Saturday afternoon at the University of Regina for the bronze medal. The Regional’s Nader Ayari scored first at the 40-minute mark, but PA scored back in the 69th minute. The game remained tied at the end of full time, which triggered two 10-minute overtime periods. Three minutes into the first overtime, Carleton scored. The game ended 2-1 resulting in the Raiders’ fourth place provincial finish.

This is the second consecutive season that the Yorkton Regional High School Raider Boys Soccer team has gone to provincials, as well as the second time to provincials in its 50-year history. Last year, Coach Steven DeLong led the boys to a provincial silver medal.
