Yorkton's Susanne and Wayne Mitchell were abroad recently - attending the Costa Rica Open Taekwondo Tournament from Aug 24 to 29 in San Jose, Costa Rica.

In addition to the Taekwondo competition, there was also an international referee refresher, held for those looking to update and maintain their referee credentials within the Taekwondo officiating community.

"For me it was good to review all that stuff," Wayne points out.

Susanne, an accomplished referee of the sport, was designated to officiate the event.

Not surprisingly, Susanne was chosen as the best female referee for the entire competition.

Wayne was also given an important role as the board member of the Competition Supervisory Board.

"The tournament itself was well-run," he adds, "It was a very interesting experience."

The event consisted of referee participation from all over the world; including countries like Australia, Jordan and many others throughout North and South America.

Wayne and Susanne also managed to take some time out of their busy schedule to experience the nature and sights that Costa Rica has to offer.

"The country itself was quite beautiful. That was enjoyable," Wayne emphasizes.
