Two youths arrested for murder in Yorkton

A suspicious death investigation in Yorkton has now been upgraded to a murder inquiry.

Police announced this morning that two male youths had been arrested in the death of 67-year-old Lawrence Skoretz who was found unresponsive on Wellington Park Road September 13.

"Subsequent to our release disseminated on September 15, further investigation has revealed the deceased male and the two accused youth had some interaction at a park in Yorkton during the early morning hours of September 13, 2016," a press release stated. The wooded area, dog park and ball diamonds between Sacred Heart High School and Hopkins Lake were blocaded for three days last week while RCMP investigated.

They now say there was a physical altercation that led to Skoretz's death, but are still not releasing details on how he was killed.

The two youths from the Yorkton area were arrested without incident September 22, 2016 at a residence in Yorkton.

Both accused have been charged with one count of 1st degree murder and one count of robbery with violence. They made a brief court appearance in Yorkton this morning where they were remanded in custody until October 6.
