A woman accused of abducting a four-month old baby boy was released from custody after appearing in Melfort Provincial Court on Jan. 7.

Tori Sutherland, 26, is charged with break and enter, assault, abduction of a child, and breach of a release order.

According to Wakaw RCMP, while investigating several disturbances at about 6:45 p.m., Nov. 14, 2020, on One Arrow First Nation, they were advised that during one of the disturbances, a woman had entered a home uninvited where she allegedly assaulted a woman and abducted an infant.

The mother found her baby about 30 to 45 minutes later unharmed at another residence on One Arrow First Nation. The suspect had already left the residence.

Police say the suspect is known to the victims and that no weapons were seen or used.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Sutherland and Wakaw and Rosthern RCMP located her on Dec. 31, 2020. She was remanded in custody at her Jan. 4, 2021, appearance before being granted bail on Jan. 7, 2021.

The charges against Sutherland haven’t been proven in court.

She is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Feb. 9 to enter a plea and election.
